Fears
Brunswick 38 Champagne
Hand built in Britain in small batches.
Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Brunswick is an exacting object to create. It takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924, and a dial colour used in the 1940s and 50s.
- Case: 38mm, stainless steel, brushed and polished, 20mm lug width
- Dial: Champagne colour, with black printing and hand applied numerals
- Strap: Pewter grey, barenia calf leather, handmade / 5-link, stainless steel bracelet with screw links and butterfly clasp
- Movement: ETA 7001, time only, manual winding
- Water Resistance: 100 metres (10 ATM)
CASE
The Brunswick’s elegant 38mm cushion-shaped case has no flat surfaces. The case’s graceful curves are machined from 316L stainless steel, to a level usually reserved for precious metals. The depth of the polish showcases the sophistication of the machinery and the skill of the operator.
The Brunswick 38 Champagne is manually wound each day using our bespoke ‘onion’-shaped winding crown, signed with the Fears Cypher. The crown’s fine grooves catch the light, adding a touch of radiance to the edge of the case.
CASEBACK
The Brunswick 38 Champagne comes with the option of either:
-
Open exhibition caseback - offering an unobstructed view of the finely decorated movement housed inside.
-
Closed caseback - offering the perfect canvas for personalisation with a custom engraving (please discover engraving options here).
DIAL
The Brunswick 38 Champagne features a gold dial which reproduces the rich colour of the famous sparkling wine. Finished with layers of real 18ct yellow gold, the dial has a warmth that complements the coolness of the steel case.
Expertly made in Germany, the surface of the dial features a glass bead-blasted finish, giving a frosted appearance with a gentle sparkle. This effect is complemented by the concentric circle finishing on the sunken sub-seconds, at 6 o’clock.
The hand-applied numerals are milled from a block of brass before being diamond polished and then coated in black gold, giving them a bright, black/brown/silver appearance. These numerals are realised in our custom ‘Edwin’ typeface, specially designed for Fears by our horological typographer and inspired by the many different typefaces the company has used throughout its history.
HANDS
The Brunswick 38 Champagne features iconic ‘Fears’-shaped hands expertly made in Germany. Skeletonised and finished in blue using physical vapor deposition, the colour of the hands changes in the light from almost black to electric blue.
MOVEMENT
The Brunswick 38 Champagne is powered by a Swiss made, manual-winding ETA 7001 movement. This accurate movement was first designed in the 1970s, and its reliability has ensured its continuing popularity today. Each movement features blued screws and Côtes de Genève striping.
STRAP
Each Brunswick 38 Champagne can be fitted with a handmade Pewter Grey strap crafted from Barenia leather with darker grey stitching, lending a contemporary feel to the watch.
The premium leather used for this strap takes its name from the village of Barr in Alsace, from where it originates. Traditionally used for saddles, this smooth calfskin leather requires a complex tanning process, known by only a small number of craftsmen.
Lined in genuine Alcantara® dyed a deep shade of blue, this lining is supremely soft against the skin yet resistant against wear. This strap is finished with Fears' bespoke pin buckle (featuring the Fears Cypher).
Customise
You can customise your Brunswick 38 with any strap designed for a 20mm lug width, including any strap from our range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.
BRACELET
The Brunswick 38 Champagne can also be fitted to a bespoke stainless steel 5-link bracelet with expertly brushed and polished links.
Featuring solid screw links, the bracelet has a substantial feel while the silky-smooth movement of the links ensure a comfortable fit around the wrist. The bracelet can be micro-adjusted with both the 8 mm and 6 mm links provided, ensuring a perfect fit. The bracelet is secured to the wrist using a trigger-release butterfly style clasp with the Bristol flower enamelled discreetly inside the blades.
The Brunswick 38 features a 20mm lug width and is designed to fit all of the straps in our range. The bracelet can be removed without tools using its quick-release springbars.
The perfect fit!
We can adjust the bracelet size for you before sending it. Please contact us by email with your order number and wrist size and we’ll do the rest. We will provide any spare links in an envelope with your watch.
INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED
Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved discreetly on the case, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.
AMOS BOX
All Fears watches are presented in a slim, rectangular, wooden box made of solid ash and stained in our bespoke shade of blue. This luxury box was inspired by traditional slim Fears watch boxes used in the past, in which the watch lies flat. Recognising the companies heritage, we called this box the Amos, after the names of both the 2nd and 3rd Managing Directors.
The top of the box is discretely engraved with the Fears logo and features a gentle bevel around its edges, whilst the interior is lined in genuine cream suede. The box is secured by a polished chrome push button, keeping your watch safe and secure.
ENGRAVED PERSONAL TO YOU
Fears offers an engraving service whereby a watch can be made personal to its new owner. We work with one of the UK's leading 3D laser engravers who can engrave initials, a date, or a special verse on your watch.
