CASE
The Redcliff 39.5 Onyx is housed in a contemporary round case with integrated lugs alongside a screw-down case back, bezel and crown. Spanning 39.5mm in diameter yet with a case thickness of only 10.57mm, this slim case is as elegant as the dial it houses.
This case has its own special reference and differs slightly from our standard Redcliff case; a raised bezel to accommodate the thicker dial and additional polished sections to give this watch a dressier feel that is commensurate with the elevated status of an onyx dial.
DIAL
The Redcliff 39.5 Onyx marks the first time a hard stone dial has appeared on a Fears watch in our rich history. Each dial is crafted from a disc of genuine Black Onyx that possesses a mirror-like shine that is as opulent as it is reflective.
Expertly made in Germany, each disc of onyx is carefully adhered to a brass backplate before being crafted in to a functional dial. Onyx is a microcrystalline stone that is formed in the gas cavities of lava with a multi-layered structure that is likened to that of the agates. Onyx is very durable and the stones hardness means it has strong scratch and chip resistance.
A contemporary set of baton indices are then printed atop the onyx surface in white and silver ink (that contains actual real silver).
Please note
Due the nature of these dials each is entirely unique and will vary slightly from the images shown. The Managing Director has personally checked all the onyx dials we use to ensure each share the same clarity and lustre.
HANDS
The Redcliff 39.5 Onyx's distinctive ‘Fears’-shaped hands are tri-bevelled and diamond polished before being finished in a coating of rhodium - the tri-bevelled edges will catch the light brilliantly, allowing the time to be read easily.
MOVEMENT
The Redcliff 39.5 Onyx is powered by a customised Swiss-made, automatic La Joux-Perret G101 movement (that has had the date function removed). Winding itself when worn on the wrist this movement boasts a generous power reserve of 68 hours and a decorated winding rotor concealed by a closed case back.
STRAP
The Redcliff 39.5 Onyx is fitted with a handmade Black strap crafted from a premium Barenia leather with tonal stitching and fold-over edges that gives this watch an even more luxurious and contemporary feel.
The premium leather used for this strap takes its name from the village of Barr in Alsace, from where it originates. Traditionally used for saddles, this smooth calfskin leather requires a complex tanning process, known by only a small number of craftsmen.
Lined in genuine Alcantara® dyed a deep shade of blue, this lining is supremely soft against the skin yet resistant against wear. This strap is finished with Fears' new bespoke pin buckle (featuring the Fears Cypher).
Customise
You can customise your Redcliff 39.5 Onyx with any strap designed for a 20mm lug width, including any strap from our range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.
INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED
Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved between the 20mm lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.
AMOS BOX
The entire Fears core collection is now presented in a slim, rectangular, wooden box made of solid ash and stained in our bespoke Fears Blue colour. This luxury box was inspired by traditional slim Fears watch boxes used in the past, in which the watch lay flat. Recognising the companies heritage, we called this box the Amos, after the 2nd and 3rd Managing Directors.
The top of the box is discretely engraved with the Fears logo and features a gentle bevel around its edges, whilst the interior is lined in genuine cream suede. The box is secured by a polished chrome push button, keeping your watch safe and secure.
