The sportier Fears watch.

Hand built in Britain.

Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Brunswick 40 takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924. This sportier iteration of the Brunswick is the perfect all-round watch, taking you from beach to boardroom with ease.

  • Case: 40mm, stainless steel, brushed and polished, 20mm lug width
  • Dial: Silver white colour, with black and red printing and hand applied numerals
  • Strap: 5-link, stainless steel bracelet with screw links and butterfly clasp / Black, buffalo leather, handmade
  • Movement: LJP G101, time-only, automatic, decorated rotor, 68hr power reserve
  • Water Resistance: 150 metres (15 ATM)

CASE

The Brunswick 40’s elegant yet sporty 40 mm cushion-shaped case has no flat surfaces. The case’s glancing curves are machined from 316L stainless steel, to a level usually reserved for precious metals. The depth of the polish along with the hand grained finish applied to the top of the case’s corners showcase the sophistication of the machinery and the skill of the operator.

Complementing the case is our bespoke ‘onion’-shaped winding screw down crown, signed with the Fears Cypher. Screwed into the case, the crown’s fine grooves catch the light, adding a touch of radiance to the edge of the case.

Built with uprated proportions, the Brunswick 40 is 150m water resistant, allowing it to be swum in when the crown is screwed all the way in.

CASEBACK

The Brunswick 40 comes with the option of either:

  • Open exhibition caseback - offering an unobstructed view of the finely decorated movement (and custom Fears Blue rotor adorned with the Bristol flower).
  • Closed caseback - offering the perfect canvas for personalisation with a custom engraving (please discover engraving options here).

DIAL

The Brunswick 40 Opaline Silver features an striking silver dial with a bright finish created using a coating of 99.9% pure silver.

Expertly made in Germany, the surface of the dial is on two levels, each with its own distinct finish:

  • Central lower section – Finished with micro-guilloché. Concentric rings are cut into the dial’s surface using a CNC machine. These delicate ‘rills’ are so fine, like a record's grooves, that they appear invisible to the naked eye yet catch the light giving a beautiful subtle sunburst finish.
  • Outer raised section- A genuine Opaline finish using a traditional method of polishing with straw that results in a bright frosted effect, which the numerals are hand riveted to.

The ‘Edwin’ numerals are milled from a block of brass before being diamond polished and then coated in black gold, giving them a warm, grey/black appearance. These numerals are realised in our custom ‘Edwin’ typeface, specially designed for Fears by our horological typographer and inspired by the many different typefaces the company has used throughout its history.

Look out for the tiny red triangle at 12 o’clock. A subtle reference to several pieces in the Fears Archive.

HANDS

The Brunswick 40’s distinctive ‘Fears’-shaped hands are milled from solid brass with a bevel cut down the centre using a diamond tool. This results in a highly polished surface that catches the light, giving excellent legibility in low-light conditions. These hands are finished in a coating of black gold that perfectly matches the polished 3D numerals.

The seconds hand is hand-painted in a deep red, matching the red triangle at 12 o’clock (historically Fears watches with a central seconds hand had these also painted red to aid with timing of medical and sporting events).

MOVEMENT

The Brunswick 40 is powered by a customised Swiss-made, automatic La Joux-Perret G101 movement (that has had the date function removed). Winding itself when worn on the wrist this movement boasts a generous power reserve of 68 hours and a decorated winding rotor.

BRACELET

The Brunswick 40 Opaline Silver is fitted to a bespoke stainless steel 5-link bracelet with expertly brushed and polished links.

Featuring solid screw links, the bracelet has a substantial feel while the silky-smooth movement of the links ensure a comfortable fit around the wrist. The bracelet can be micro-adjusted with both the 8 mm and 6 mm links provided, ensuring a perfect fit. The bracelet is secured to the wrist using a trigger-release butterfly style clasp with the Bristol flower enamelled discreetly inside the blades.

The Brunswick 40 features a 20mm lug width and is designed to fit all of the straps in our range. The bracelet can be removed without tools using its quick-release springbars.

The perfect fit!

When you purchase a Brunswick 40 we can adjust the bracelet size for you before sending it. Please contact us by email with your order number and wrist size and we’ll do the rest. We will provide any spare links in an envelope with your watch.

STRAP

Each Brunswick 40 Opaline Silver can be fitted with a handmade Raven Black strap crafted from Buffalo leather (sourced from the Himalayas), lending a more sophisticated feel to the watch. This premium leather is some of the strongest and most durable available which makes it perfect for our sportier Brunswick.

This leather has been tanned in the same way it has been for centuries, using organic materials (and not modern techniques that utilise chemicals). It is not stretched during the tanning process, so is thicker more hard-wearing as a result.

Lined in genuine Alcantara® dyed a deep shade of blue, this lining is supremely soft against the skin yet resistant against wear. This strap is finished with Fears' bespoke pin buckle (featuring the Fears Cypher).

Customise

You can customise your Brunswick 40 with any strap designed for a 20mm lug width, including any strap from our range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.

INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED

Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved between the lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.

AMOS BOX

All Fears watches are presented in a slim, rectangular, wooden box made of solid ash and stained in our bespoke shade of blue. This luxury box was inspired by traditional slim Fears watch boxes used in the past, in which the watch lies flat. Recognising the companies heritage, we called this box the Amos, after the names of both the 2nd and 3rd Managing Directors.

The top of the box is discretely engraved with the Fears logo and features a gentle bevel around its edges, whilst the interior is lined in genuine cream suede. The box is secured by a polished chrome push button, keeping your watch safe and secure.
