Brunswick 40 Fears Blue

The sportier Fears watch.

Please Note; this watch has now been discontinued, if you are interested in purchasing please email enquiries@fearswatches.com (as we may have ex-display models available) or there may be limited stock available with our Fears Authorised Stockists.

Hand built in Britain.

Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Brunswick 40 takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924. This sportier iteration of the Brunswick is the perfect all-round watch, taking you from beach to boardroom with ease.

  • Case: 40 mm, stainless steel, brushed and polished, 20mm lug width
  • Dial: Dark blue colour, with white printing and hand applied numerals
  • Strap: 5-link, stainless steel bracelet with screw links and butterfly clasp / Fears Blue, barenia calf leather, handmade
  • Movement: ETA 2824-2, time only, decorated rotor, automatic winding
  • Water Resistance: 150 metres (15 ATM)

CASE

The Brunswick 40’s elegant yet sporty 40 mm cushion-shaped case has no flat surfaces. The case’s glancing curves are machined from 316L stainless steel, to a level usually reserved for precious metals. The depth of the polish along with the hand grained finish applied to the top of the case’s corners showcase the sophistication of the machinery and the skill of the operator.

Complementing the case is our bespoke ‘onion’-shaped winding screw down crown, signed with the Fears Cypher. Screwed into the case, the crown’s fine grooves catch the light, adding a touch of radiance to the edge of the case.

Built with uprated proportions, the Brunswick 40 is 150m water resistant, allowing it to be swum in when the crown is screwed all the way in.

DIAL

The Brunswick 40 Blue features a Fears Blue dial with a unique deep blue using a special galvanic coating.

Expertly made in Germany, the surface of the dial is on two levels, each with its own distinct finish:

  • Central lower section – Finished with micro-guilloché. Concentric rings are cut into the dial’s surface using a CNC machine. These delicate ‘rills’ are so fine, like a record's grooves, that they appear invisible to the naked eye yet catch the light giving a beautiful, subtle sunburst finish.
  • Outer raised section – Hand-brushed in a vertical direction. This subtle brushing is unique to each watch and catches the light beautifully, providing a perfect base for the sparkling numerals.

The ‘Edwin’ numerals are milled from a block of brass before being diamond polished and then coated in rhodium, giving them a bright, silver/white appearance. These numerals are realised in our custom ‘Edwin’ typeface, specially designed for Fears by our horological typographer and inspired by the many different typefaces the company has used throughout its history.

HANDS

The Brunswick 40’s distinctive ‘Fears’-shaped hands are milled from solid brass with a bevel cut down the centre using a diamond tool. This results in a highly polished surface that catches the light, giving excellent legibility in low-light conditions. These hands are finished in a coating of rhodium that perfectly matches the polished 3D numerals.

MOVEMENT

The Brunswick 40 is powered by a Swiss made, automatic winding ETA 2824-2 movement. Winding itself when worn on the wrist, this movement is made to Top-grade standard with a decorated winding rotor hidden behind the closed case back. This movement has had its date mechanism removed allowing precise control when setting the time with no "ghost" date position.

The accurate and reliable ETA 2824-2 movement is a popular choice, with easy servicing and regulating. We service and modify each movement in Britain.

BRACELET

The Brunswick 40 is fitted to a bespoke stainless steel 5-link bracelet with expertly brushed and polished links.

Featuring solid screw links, the bracelet has a substantial feel while the silky-smooth movement of the links ensure a comfortable fit around the wrist. The bracelet can be micro-adjusted with both the 8 mm and 6 mm links provided, ensuring a perfect fit. The bracelet is secured to the wrist using a trigger-release butterfly style clasp with the Bristol flower enamelled discreetly inside the blades.

The Brunswick 40 features a 20 mm lug width and is designed to fit all of the straps in our range. The bracelet can be removed without tools using its quick-release springbars.

The perfect fit!

When you purchase a Brunswick 40 we can adjust the bracelet size for you before sending it. Please contact us by email with your order number and wrist size and we’ll do the rest. We will provide any spare links in an envelope with your watch.

STRAP

Each Brunswick 40 Fears Blue can be fitted fitted with a handmade Fears Blue strap crafted from Barenia leather with tonal stitching, lending a contemporary feel to the watch.

The premium leather used for this strap takes its name from the village of Barr in Alsace, from where it originates. Traditionally used for saddles, this smooth calfskin leather requires a complex tanning process, known by only a small number of craftsmen.

Lined in genuine Alcantara® dyed a deep shade of blue, this lining is supremely soft against the skin yet resistant against wear. This strap is finished with Fears' new bespoke pin buckle (featuring the Fears Cypher).

Customise

You can customise your Brunswick 40 with any strap designed for a 20mm lug width, including any strap from our range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.

INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED

Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved between the lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.

AMOS BOX

The entire Fears core collection is now presented in a slim, rectangular, wooden box made of solid ash and stained in our bespoke Fears Blue colour. This luxury box was inspired by traditional slim Fears watch boxes used in the past, in which the watch lay flat. Recognising the companies heritage, we called this box the Amos, after the 2nd and 3rd Managing Directors.

The top of the box is discretely engraved with the Fears logo and features a gentle bevel around its edges, whilst the interior is lined in genuine cream suede. The box is secured by a polished chrome push button, keeping your watch safe and secure.
