Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Alliance 01’s Brunswick case is an exacting object to create. It takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924.
CASE
The Alliance 01’s elegant 40.5 mm cushion-shaped case has no flat surfaces, with even the solid case back having a gentle sweep. The case’s graceful curves are machined from 316L stainless steel in Germany, to a level usually reserved for precious metals. The depth of the polish showcases the sophistication of the machinery and the skill of the operator.
The traditional ‘onion’-shaped winding crown is made in Germany. Hand-polished and signed with the the Fears ‘Pipette’ logo, the crown beautifully complements the case's curves.
DIAL
The Alliance 01 features a Burgundy Red dial with a rich, deep red reminiscent of a fine wine. The special matte lacquer plays with the light as the three surface finishes beneath shine through.
Expertly made, the surface of the dial features a concentric guilloche engraved deeply in the central minute section, with a frosted outer section for the chapter ring. Beyond this, the outer dial area has a delicate sunburst finish, pushing outwards towards the edges of the dial. Minimal printing in silver ink complements the richness of the dial finishing perfectly.
As a ‘jump hour’ watch there are no hour numerals on the dial, instead the hour is displayed via a window at 12 o’clock. The disc displaying these numerals is coated in a bright white lacquer before the hours are printed in glossy black ink in Fears bespoke ‘Edwin’ typeface. The hour window and the chapter ring are surrounded by hand-applied silver rings. Each ring is machined with bevels before being finished by hand with brushed and polished surfaces. These multiple finishes catch the light while mirroring the polished bezel surrounding the crystal.
HANDS
With the hours displayed neatly in a window, only one hand is required for telling the time. The ‘Fears-shaped’ minute hand includes dual-finishing with half the hand polished to a mirror shine while the other half is frosted. These two finishes ensure perfect legibility at all angles, even in low light conditions.
MOVEMENT
The Alliance 01 is powered by a Swiss made, automatic winding JJ01 movement with a module developed in-house by Johannes Jahnke, Christopher Ward’s former master watchmaker. Powered by a Sellita SW200, this movement is incredibly accurate, having been regulated to Chronometer grade. Decorated with the Christopher Ward twin-flags design and Rhodium plating.
STRAP
The Alliance 01 comes on a matching Burgundy Red strap, using leather that is bespoke tanned by Britain’s oldest vegetable tannery, Thomas Ware & Sons of Bristol. Lined in genuine Alcantara® dyed a deep shade of blue, this lining is supremely soft against the skin yet resistant against wear. The strap is fitted with a stainless steel pin buckle that is subtly engraved with a 1930’s Fears logo.
The Alliance 01 is designed to fit all 20 mm straps, including all the straps in our range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.
INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED
Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved discreetly between the lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps to identify your watch and its history.
'ALLIANCE HALLMARK'
Discreetly engraved on the underside of the four lugs are the logos of Fears, Christopher Ward, the Alliance and on the fourth the edition number of the watch ranging from 01-50.
BRITISH BOX
For decades, Fears presented watches in a dark blue box with a cream-coloured lining. We are delighted to continue this tradition today.
The Alliance 01 is presented in a bespoke wooden box, crafted in Britain from English Ash, which is stained Fears Blue. Lined in genuine cream suede, the watch sits proudly on a special cushion.
