Hand-built in Britain in small batches.

Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Brunswick is an exacting object to create. It takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924.

  • Case: 38mm, stainless steel, polished, 20mm lug width
  • Dial: Pink-tinted mother of pearl, with black printing and hand-applied numerals
  • Strap: Dark grey, Alcantara®, handmade / 5-link, stainless steel bracelet with screw links and butterfly clasp
  • Movement: LJP D100, time only, manual winding
  • Water Resistance: 100 metres (10 ATM)

CASE

The Brunswick’s elegant 38mm cushion-shaped case has no flat surfaces. The case’s graceful curves are machined from 316L stainless steel, to a level usually reserved for precious metals. The depth of the polish showcases the sophistication of the machinery and the skill of the operator.

The Brunswick 38 'Orchid' is manually wound each day using our bespoke ‘onion’-shaped winding crown, signed with the Fears Cypher. The crown’s fine grooves catch the light, adding a touch of radiance to the edge of the case.

CASEBACK

The Brunswick 38 'Orchid' comes with the option of either:

  • Open exhibition caseback - offering an unobstructed view of the finely decorated movement housed inside.

  • Closed caseback - offering the perfect canvas for personalisation with a custom engraving (please discover engraving options here).

DIAL

The Brunswick 38 'Orchid' joins the iconic Brunswick 40 'Aurora' to form a family of limited-production Fears pieces that feature dials constructed from Pinctada Maxima (mother of pearl from the rarest oyster pearl shells). Each section of these dials have been hand-tinted on the underside to achieve a delicate shade of pale pink (reminiscent of the Pink Cymbidium orchid) that highlights the natural iridescence of the material.

Expertly made in Germany, these dials are painstakingly formed by hand using mother of pearl originating from some of the worlds highest quality, rarest and most sought-after pearl oysters. The dial is made using two pieces of mother of pearl with the main dial and a prominent, sunken, sub-seconds at the 6 o'clock position. The effect of opting for two levels cut to different heights creates a subtle yet impactful difference that creates an elegant distinction in how the light plays with the dial.

The hand-applied numerals are milled from a block of brass before being diamond polished and then coated in black gold, giving them a bright, black/brown/silver appearance. These numerals are realised in our custom ‘Edwin’ typeface, specially designed for Fears by our horological typographer and inspired by the many different typefaces the company has used throughout its history.

Please Note

Due the nature of these dials each is entirely unique and will vary slightly from the images shown. The Managing Director has personally checked all the mother of pearl dials we use to ensure each maintains the same level of beauty and brilliant in their natural iridescence.

    HANDS

The Brunswick 38 'Orchid' features iconic ‘Fears’-shaped hands expertly made in Germany, they are milled from solid brass with a bevel cut down the centre using a diamond tool. This results in a highly polished surface that catches the light, giving excellent legibility in low-light conditions. These hands are finished in a coating of black gold that perfectly matches the polished 3D numerals.

    MOVEMENT

The Brunswick 38 'Orchid' is powered by a Swiss-made, manual winding La Joux-Perret D100 movement. This movement is the top-grade version, with an extended 50 hour power reserve and finished with Côtes de Genève and blued screws.

    STRAP

The Brunswick 38 'Orchid' is fitted with a handmade Storm Grey strap crafted from Alcantara® with tonal stitching that gives this watch an contemporary feel whilst retaining its elegance.

Alcantara® (a cutting-edge material developed in Italy) offers unrivalled aesthetic, technical and tactile qualities. Whilst being similar to suede, it is far more hard-wearing (and crucially, is also water-resistant) and in addition to being commonly found in the interiors of luxury sports cars it offers excellent properties as a watch strap.

Lined in a premium anti-allergenic calf leather and embossed with both our logo and ‘Handmade in Belgium’ - this is both soft and comfortable and will extend the lifetime of your strap. This strap is finished with Fears' bespoke pin buckle (featuring the Fears Cypher).

    BRACELET

The Brunswick 38 'Orchid' is also available to purchase with Fears bespoke stainless steel 5-link bracelet.

The bracelet features expertly brushed and polished sold screw links and has a substantial feel while the silky-smooth movement of the links ensure a comfortable fit around the wrist. The bracelet can be micro-adjusted with both the 8mm and 6mm links provided, ensuring a perfect fit.

The bracelet is secured to the wrist using a trigger-release butterfly style clasp with the Bristol flower enamelled discreetly inside the blades.

The Brunswick 38 features a 20mm lug width and is designed to fit all of the straps in our range. The bracelet can be removed without tools using its quick-release springbars.

    INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED

Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved between the 20mm lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.

    AMOS BOX

All Fears watches are presented in a slim, rectangular, wooden box made of solid ash and stained in our bespoke shade of blue. This luxury box was inspired by traditional slim Fears watch boxes used in the past, in which the watch lies flat. Recognising the companies heritage, we called this box the Amos, after the names of both the 2nd and 3rd Managing Directors.

The top of the box is discretely engraved with the Fears logo and features a gentle bevel around its edges, whilst the interior is lined in genuine cream suede. The box is secured by a polished chrome push button, keeping your watch safe and secure.
