Brunswick White Series 1 (2017)

The first Brunswick

Years produced: 2017-2018
Numbers produced: 67

The first mechanical watch of the new Fears era. Produced in very small batches, the Brunswick Series 1 shares a lot of aesthetic characteristics with our current Brunswick White, its successor.

CASE

The Brunswick Series 1’s elegant 38mm cushion-shaped case had only one flat surface - the rear sapphire glass.

Each case was first machined in the UK before undergoing several days of polishing and finishing by one watchmaker. A truly hand finished watch, requiring a high level of skill to make each watch.

DIAL

The Brunswick Series 1 featured a cold resin enamel dial with a milky white glossy dial surface. Each dial was made entirely in the UK with a high rate of rejection in its creation.

Once the enamel was set and polished the dial was printed, using a bolder version of the classic numeral set used on the Brunswick White and first used by Fears in 1946.

HANDS

The Brunswick Series 1 used the same distinctive

Fears’-shaped hands as the Brunswick White. Made and finished in our workshops by a watchmaker, giving them a depth and detail not found in mass-produced, stamped watch hands. Each set of hands is subtly skeletonised before being thermally blued by a flame. This traditional method of thermally hardening the steel results in a blue unique to each Brunswick, from almost black to electric blue in the light.

Fears is one of only a handful of British watch brands that construct watch hands in-house, in the UK.

MOVEMENT

The Brunswick is powered by a Swiss made, manual winding ETA 7001 movement. This accurate movement was first designed in the 1970s, and its reliability has ensured its continuing popularity today. We service and finish each movement in Britain, with Côtes de Genève striping and Rhodium plating.

The movement in the first 14 watches was surrounded by a golden movement ring. This limited run was a reference to the number at Number 14 Brunswick Square, from where the watch takes its name from.

The remaining watches featured a movement ring plated in bright Rhodium.

From watch No. 20 onwards the movement received a Fears ‘Golden Pipette’.

STRAP

The first batches of Brunswick Series 1s were supplied on a Fears Custom strap made to the owner’s wishes.

The following batches were offered on handmade Alligator straps in a range of precious stone colours before the Bristol Leather straps were introduced in late 2018.

The Brunswick Series 1 is designed to fit all of the straps in our

range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.

INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED

Each watch we make carries a unique serial number.

The first 19 watches carried their serial number on an engraved movement ring, visible through the exhibition case back.

Subsequent watches carried their serial number between the 20mm lugs at 12 o’clock.

ENGRAVED PERSONAL TO YOU

Fears offers an engraving service whereby a watch can be made personal to its new owner. We work with one of the UK's leading 3D laser engravers who can engrave initials, a date, or a special verse on your watch. Please contact us here to discuss how we can make your watch extra special.
